Phenylpyruvate in urine interacts with high valence iron ions under acidic conditions to produce blue compounds of Fe3+ and enolform phenylpyruvate. The kit uses the above principle to determine the content of phenylpyruvate by observing the color change of the chelate, and is mainly used for qualitative detection of phenylpyruvate content in human and animal urine.
